Microneedling Q&A
What is microneedling?
Dr. Knott uses microneedling to treat a number of skin conditions because it’s a versatile and extremely effective treatment. During the treatment, she moves a specialized device with a series of extremely thin needles over the surface of your skin, creating tiny pinpricks. As your body heals the treated area, it builds new, healthy skin.
This makes microneedling effective for treating:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Large pores
- Age spots
- Hyperpigmentation
- Acne scars and other scarring
If you want luminous skin with fewer imperfections, microneedling could be for you.
How does microneedling work?
During your microneedling treatment, Dr. Knott uses the microneedling device to create a series of pinpricks in your skin’s surface. Your body reads these pinpricks as injuries and kickstarts its natural healing and regeneration processes.
This means an increase in the production of collagen, the protein that keeps your skin tight and smooth. As your skin builds a new network of collagen, it reverses the signs of aging while giving you a more even complexion.
Additionally, the microneedles themselves help break up imperfections like scar tissue and hyperpigmentation. As your skin heals after treatment, it creates new, healthy, unblemished skin, minimizing the appearance of skin issues.
Can microneedling be combined with other treatments?
Absolutely. In fact, to give you the most dramatic, longest-lasting results, Dr. Knott combines microneedling with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). She derives PRP from your own blood, separating out the platelets to get a serum that’s rich in the growth factors that stimulate cellular healing and regeneration.
Introducing this plasma to your skin after microneedling allows it to penetrate deeply. As the PRP goes to work, it helps your body create new, perfect skin.
Is microneedling painful?
Dr. Knott prioritizes your experience during treatment. She can apply a topical anesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout the process.
Afterward, your skin will look pink and feel tender. You may experience some swelling, but all of these changes fade within a few days. At that point, you’ll notice immediate results from your microneedling treatment. What’s more, those results continue to improve as your skin builds new collagen and healthy skin.
