What is PRP?

As its name suggests, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a plasma that’s comprised primarily of platelets. Platelets are a component of your blood. Whenever you get hurt, your body directs these platelets to the injury site. There, they stimulate healing and help your blood clot. 

The platelets work to promote healing because they’re rich in growth factors. These growth factors regulate cell division and cell growth. When introduced to an area that needs healing, the growth factors stimulate regeneration and support the creation of new, healthy tissue. 

Dr. Knott derives the PRP by placing a small sample of your blood into a centrifuge. There, the platelets are separated from the other components of your blood so she can use it during treatment.
